Omega AI+ vs Omega AI: Is Starkey's Plus Worth Paying For?

TL;DR: For most buyers, Omega AI is the smarter buy. It has the same health tracking, fall detection, Auracast streaming and battery life as Omega AI+, and costs less right now. Upgrade to Omega AI+ if you want sleep tracking and don't mind wearing your hearing aids to bed, or you want Edge Mode on from the moment you power up.

Starkey just stuck a plus sign on Omega AI, and plus signs rarely come free. If you're weighing Omega AI+ vs Omega AI, the useful question is whether the two headline upgrades will show up in your actual day, or just in the brochure. For plenty of people the answer is the brochure, which is great news for your wallet.

If you already have an audiogram, upload your audiogram and you're halfway to an answer. Without one, our free online hearing test takes about 5 to 10 minutes and gives our team what it needs to point you at the right one.

Omega AI+ or Omega AI: The Short Answer

Pick Omega AI unless sleep tracking or always-on Edge Mode is on your must-have list. Omega AI+ is a real upgrade under the hood, but most of what you'd notice from one week to the next (health tracking, fall alerts, streaming, battery) already lives in Omega AI.

Both lines come from Starkey hearing aids, both are rechargeable receiver-in-canal devices, and both come in the same three levels. So the decision comes down to a handful of features and the price gap between them.

What Omega AI+ Adds over Omega AI

Omega AI+ adds a faster processor, a smarter way to handle loud and soft sounds, Edge Mode that stays on, sleep tracking, and an alert for when you walk away from your hearing aids. Most of it runs on a new chip, the G4, so it arrives as a new line rather than a feature switch on the old one.

  • G4 Gen AI Neuro Processor with Quad DNN. Four neural networks work at the same time on speech, your surroundings, listening comfort and sound quality. According to Starkey, it processes sound up to 2.7 times faster than leading hearing aids that market DNN processing.

  • DNN Dual Compressor. It chooses, moment to moment, between crisp speech and natural sound, so you stop trading one for the other.

  • Edge Mode that stays on. On Omega AI+, Edge Mode is already running when you power up, rather than something you tap into for one situation at a time.

  • Sleep tracking. Nightly sleep scores, wake periods, light and deep sleep and body position, available in the US. It only works if you sleep in them.

  • Hearing aids left behind alert. The My Starkey app pings your phone when you walk away from your devices. Starkey calls it an industry first, and anyone who has torn a house apart looking for one hearing aid will call it overdue.

  • StarLink Charger 3.0. A redesigned charger that ships with the new line.

The left-behind alert might earn its keep the first time your hearing aids try to stay behind at a restaurant.

What You Get with Both

The plus sign changes the engine, not the dashboard. Health tracking, fall detection, Auracast streaming, water protection and long battery life are in both. Starkey kept the same wellness and connectivity toolkit across the family and added the Auracast assistant to Omega AI in a later update, so those features don't separate the two.

  • Health and activity tracking. Steps, exercise, social activity and respiratory rate in the My Starkey app, the whole reason Omega AI sits in our health tracking hearing aids lineup.

  • Fall detection. If your hearing aids detect a likely fall, My Starkey alerts a contact you choose.

  • Auracast broadcast audio. Tune into compatible broadcasts in airports, gyms and theaters straight from the app.

  • Battery that's a tie. The RIC RT runs up to 51 hours on a charge in both lines. The smaller mRIC R runs up to 41 hours in both, or 33 with streaming.

  • Water protection. The RIC RT carries an IP68 rating in both lines, and Starkey rates rechargeable styles waterproof up to one meter. That covers sweat, rain and the occasional fumble at the sink.

  • Same Injoy coverage. A 4-year manufacturer warranty, 3-year loss and damage coverage on most models, and a 60-day trial on either one.

Price and five features separate these two. Everything else is a tie, and a tie at a lower price goes to Omega AI.

Why Always-On Edge Mode Matters More Than It Sounds

Always-on Edge Mode matters because it removes the one job Omega AI still leaves to you: noticing the room got hard and doing something about it. That sounds small until you count how many times a day the room changes.

Edge Mode is Starkey's heavy lifter for difficult listening. On Omega AI, you trigger it with a tap or the app. It takes a snapshot of the sound around you and tunes speech and noise handling for that exact moment, which works beautifully until the moment changes. Walk from the bar to the patio, or the band starts up, and you're tapping again. Omega AI+ flips the default. Edge Mode sits in the main program from the moment you switch on and keeps adjusting as your surroundings shift, and Starkey reports it improves listening effort compared with the standard Personal program. Listening effort is the tiring part of hearing loss, the mental work of filling in the words you half caught. Less of it is why some people finish a loud evening with energy to spare. Starkey also gave Edge Mode a DNN boost on Omega AI+ for more comfort in noise.

  • You'll notice it most if your days hop between quiet and loud: open offices, kids' games, restaurants, family dinners where everyone talks at once.

  • You'll notice it least if your days are mostly calm, because one tap at the noisy dinner covers you.

  • It helps the forgetful, which is most of us. A feature you have to remember to use is a feature you use half the time.

The Dual Compressor, Without the Jargon

Compression squeezes loud and soft sounds into the range you can hear comfortably. Fast compression reacts instantly, so soft consonants pop, but it can sound choppy, with little pumping artifacts. Slow compression sounds smooth and natural but can lag behind quick speech. Traditional hearing aids pick one speed and live with it, like a camera stuck in sports mode or portrait mode forever. Omega AI+ uses a neural network to switch between the two as you listen, fast when someone is talking and slow when it's music or the general hum of the room. In Starkey's own testing, every participating wearer noticed fewer artifacts than with Starkey's previous technology.

Sleep Tracking: Great Data, One Catch

You only get sleep data if you wear your hearing aids to bed, so it's a great upgrade for some people and a nonstarter for others. The sensors that measure your sleep are inside the hearing aids, so they have to be in your ears to do it.

What you get is a nightly sleep score plus wake periods, light and deep sleep, and body position. You give up the night off in exchange. Our usual advice is to take hearing aids out before bed, because of pillow pressure, moisture and the whistle a microphone makes against a pillowcase. And hearing aids worn overnight need a charging window somewhere else in your day.

"Most people who ask about sleep tracking want the data, not the pillow time," says Dr. Jaime Parks, AuD, audiologist and clinical lead at Injoy. "If you already sleep comfortably in your hearing aids, it's a great reason to go with Omega AI+. If you take them out every night, Omega AI gives you everything else for less."

Your own nights settle this one fast.

  • Good fit: you already fall asleep in your hearing aids most nights and sleep fine.

  • Also a good fit: you want sleep data without strapping another gadget to your wrist.

  • Probably skip: you're a side sleeper with a squishy pillow and a light-sleeping partner.

Is Omega AI+ Worth It?

Omega AI+ is worth it if you'll use sleep tracking or always-on Edge Mode every day. If neither one changes your routine, Omega AI covers the rest, and you're paying for hearing rather than a spec sheet.

Upgrade to Omega AI+ If

The plus earns its price when one of these sounds like you.

  • You want sleep tracking and will wear your hearing aids overnight to get it.

  • Your days bounce between quiet and noisy, and tapping into Edge Mode every time sounds exhausting.

  • Natural sound in noise matters a lot to you, and you want the Dual Compressor's newer approach.

  • You've lost a hearing aid before and the left-behind alert sounds like cheap insurance.

Stick with Omega AI If

Omega AI is the smarter buy when these ring true.

  • You take your hearing aids out every night and plan to keep doing that.

  • Your loud moments are occasional, so a tap into Edge Mode covers them.

  • Health tracking, fall alerts and streaming are what you're after, since you get all three either way.

  • You'd rather put the price difference toward a spare charger or a TV streamer.

Already wearing Omega AI and happy with it? Nothing here makes yours obsolete. The plus is an option for the next pair, not an emergency.

Omega AI and Omega AI+ Levels: 24, 20 and 16

Both lines come in three levels at Injoy, 24, 20 and 16, and the number is how many fine-tuning channels your provider gets to work with. More channels means finer control over how sound is shaped across pitches, which matters most when your hearing loss changes a lot from low tones to high ones.

Your licensed hearing care provider matches the level to your audiogram and to how noisy your weeks are, so you don't have to guess.

  • Omega AI: the Starkey Omega AI 24 and Starkey Omega AI 20 are on the site now, in both the RIC RT and the smaller mRIC R. Omega AI 16 is available too, so call us for pricing.

  • Omega AI+: Omega AI+ 24, 20 and 16 in the same two styles, RIC RT and mRIC R. Call us for pricing while they make their way onto the site.

Getting Fitted for Either One from Home

Whichever you pick, the care around it is the same. We program your hearing aids to your hearing profile before they ship, then your licensed hearing care provider fits them by phone or video after they arrive. That provider stays with you through your first 60 days and books every follow-up, so you never have to explain your hearing to someone new.

You also get a 60-day risk-free trial, which is the honest way to settle Omega AI+ vs Omega AI: wear them in your own life and see whether the plus shows up. The hearing aids are identical to what any clinic sells. The professional care is identical. The price is not. That's the Injoy difference.

Still torn? Talk to one of our hearing care experts. They know both lines inside and out and will tell you straight if the cheaper one fits you better.

Omega AI+ vs Omega AI Questions, Answered

Is Starkey discontinuing Omega AI?

No. Omega AI stays in Starkey's lineup alongside Omega AI+, and we sell both. If you're unsure which suits your hearing, our team can help you figure out exactly what's right for you.

Do Omega AI+ and Omega AI have the same battery life?

Yes. The RIC RT runs up to 51 hours on a charge in both lines, and the smaller mRIC R runs up to 41. Streaming and noisy days shorten either one, so most people simply charge overnight.

Should I choose the RIC RT or the mRIC R?

The RIC RT is the standard size and carries the longest battery, up to 51 hours. The mRIC R is smaller and more discreet, with up to 41 hours, which still clears a long day. Your licensed hearing care provider will weigh your ear, your hearing loss and how much you stream before recommending one.

Which one costs less?

Right now, Omega AI costs less. Omega AI+ isn't on the site yet, so call us for current pricing on either line. We'll compare them for your hearing and budget before you decide.

Can I try Omega AI+ before committing?

Yes. Every hearing aid we sell comes with a 60-day trial, Omega AI+ included. If it isn't earning its plus sign in your daily life, you can return it within the trial window. Our team will happily talk you through it.
