That second chip is the whole argument for the Sphere models. It powers Spheric Speech Clarity 3.0, which separates speech from noise in any direction. Phonak reports wearers are up to twice as likely to catch every word from any direction. That comes from its own field study research.

Why Two Chips Instead of One Faster Chip

Neural processing is hungry work. Running it on the same chip that handles Bluetooth and sound processing forces a compromise. Phonak gave the Sphere models a dedicated processor for that one job instead. The ERA chip keeps doing the day job while HYPERSONIC works on the voices.

EON R makes the opposite trade. These models keep the platform, the connectivity and the operating system. What they skip is the neural chip and the price attached to it.

Roger streaming, Tap Control, DuoPhone and the myPhonak app all carry over. The R models also pair with CROS E for hearing loss in one ear.

What Auracast Gets You in Practice

Auracast is a broadcast standard rather than a pairing trick. A venue transmits audio, and your hearing aids receive it directly. No neck loop, no borrowed headset, no asking staff for equipment.

• Theaters and cinemas. Dialogue arrives in your ears rather than bouncing off the back wall.

• Airport gates and stations. Announcements come through even when the room is loud.

• Places of worship and lecture halls. The speaker feeds your devices, not the room.

One honest caveat. The venue has to switch it on, and rollout is uneven by region. EON is ready for it, which is a different claim from Auracast being everywhere.

• Mostly quiet days at home. The E30-R covers the basics without paying for the rest.

If You Are Choosing Between Two Sphere Levels

The E90 Sphere and E70 Sphere run the same two chips. Both activate Spheric Speech Clarity automatically. The difference is strength, highest against high. That extra headroom earns its keep in hostile rooms and does little in calm ones.
