How Phonak Hearing Aids Think for You

Phonak hearing aids are built around one idea. The device should notice the room changed before you do, and adjust without being asked.

That system is called AutoSense OS. It listens continuously, works out what kind of environment you are in, and blends the right programs together. Quiet living room. Noisy restaurant. Windy walk. Car with music on. You are not switching anything by hand.

We carry three Phonak platforms. This page explains what separates them and which models sit on each.

Older people toast and smile at a restaurant.

The Chips: HYPERSONIC, DEEPSONIC and ERA

What a Phonak can do comes down to how many processors it carries.

Every current Phonak runs the ERA chip. ERA handles the sound processing and the connectivity, and it is the chip that made universal Bluetooth work. That is why a Phonak pairs with an iPhone, an Android tablet and a Windows laptop with nothing in between.

The Sphere models add a second chip whose only job is separating speech from noise, working in real time alongside ERA. On the EON Sphere that chip is HYPERSONIC. On the Infinio Ultra Sphere it is DEEPSONIC, the generation before it.

Models without a second chip run ERA alone. They handle everyday listening well and give up ground in the loudest rooms, which is exactly what the second chip is for.

The oldest platform we carry, Lumity, runs PRISM.

AutoSense OS, by Platform

Not every Phonak Audéo runs the same version of AutoSense OS. The Audéo EON runs AutoSense OS 8.0, the newest of the group. The Audéo Infinio Ultra runs 7.0. Within the Lumity line, the L90 and L70 run 5.0, while the L50 and L30 run 4.0.

Each step up scans your surroundings more often and sorts them into more environments. The hearing aid reacts faster, and with more nuance, as you move between a quiet room, a noisy restaurant and the car.

Sphere Mode

Sphere Mode is the second chip doing its one job. On the EON Sphere and the Infinio Ultra Sphere, a dedicated processor separates the voice you want from the noise around it, in real time, while ERA handles everything else.

On the E90 Sphere and E70 Sphere it runs automatically at full strength. On the E50 Sphere you switch it on yourself from the myPhonak app, at moderate strength.

In Phonak's field study, participants were up to three times more likely to catch every word from any direction with the mode active, and rated their listening effort lower on a standardized scale. Less strain in the conversation, more left at the end of the day.

Every Phonak hearing aid in the current lineup runs SmartSpeech Technology, a set of features that work together to find and enhance speech across different environments.

  • SpeechSensor

Detects the direction speech is coming from and adjusts microphone settings accordingly

  • StereoZoom 2.0

Focuses on a single voice in noisy environments; strength adjustable via the myPhonak app

  • Speech Enhancer

Improves speech intelligibility in quiet settings and at a distance

  • Dynamic Noise Cancellation

Suppresses background noise without cutting out important sounds

  • WindBlock

Reduces wind interference during outdoor use

These features switch on by themselves based on where you are. On the EON Sphere and the Infinio Ultra Sphere, they run alongside the dedicated AI chip. On the EON R, the Infinio Ultra R and the Lumity line, SmartSpeech handles speech enhancement on its own.

Most hearing aids that claim "universal connectivity" have an asterisk in the fine print. Full hands-free calling works on iPhone. Android gets streaming, maybe, and hands-free calling "may require an additional accessory."

Phonak handles it at the chip level instead. Every current Phonak runs the ERA chip, which takes calls and audio straight from the device whatever the operating system. If you have spent years carrying a separate microphone just to use your own phone, that is the part that changes.

What Phonak's Bluetooth delivers:

  • Full hands-free calling on both iPhone and Android, with no StreamLine Mic, no Roger Clip-On and no extra hardware

  • Calls route directly through both hearing aids, in stereo

  • Up to eight paired devices, with two active connections at once

  • Your phone and your tablet can both stay connected, so you are not re-pairing every time you switch

  • Auracast broadcast hardware built into every EON and every Infinio Ultra model

  • The newest platform, and the one that does the most work for you. Two chips: HYPERSONIC for separating speech from noise and ERA for everything else. It runs 25% smaller and 20% lighter than the generation before it, with up to 38 hours of battery. Right for anyone who spends real time in loud rooms and would rather not think about it.

Compare the E90 Sphere, E70 Sphere and E50 Sphere.

  • Same platform, same chip, same battery, one processor. The EON R runs ERA alone and the full SmartSpeech suite, so it handles conversations at home, one-on-one meetings and moderate restaurant noise without the dedicated AI chip. Four levels, from the E90-R down to the E30-R.

  • The previous platform, and the battery champion of our whole Phonak lineup. Up to 56 hours on a charge, against 38 on the newest EON Sphere, with DEEPSONIC handling the AI speech separation. If runtime is what decides it for you, this is the one, and it costs less than the newer platform. Two levels, the I90 and the I70.

The myPhonak App: Remote Control, Health Tracker, Direct Line to Your Provider

The myPhonak app is where the day-to-day experience lives for most users:

  • Volume and program control without touching the hearing aids
  • Custom programs for specific environments you can name and save
  • Equalizer to tune bass, mid, and treble to your preference
  • StereoZoom strength adjustment when you need to focus on one voice
  • Find My Hearing Aids with GPS-assisted real-time guidance
  • Remote Support for appointments with your hearing care provider

On a Sphere model, the app also gives you direct control over Sphere Mode and noise reduction strength, so you decide how hard the AI works in any given room. On the E90 and E70 Sphere it runs automatically and the app is there when you want it. On the E50 Sphere, the app is where you switch it on.

Roger Accessories: When the Hearing Aids Need Backup

Most users won't need accessories immediately. The Phonak lineup handles the vast majority of listening situations on its own. For situations that stay hard, Roger wireless microphones send speech straight to your hearing aids over RogerDirect. Phonak built the receiver into the hearing aid, so there is no extra hardware to buy.

Accessory Best For
Roger On Group conversations, lectures, versatile tabletop or handheld use
Roger Select Tables where multiple people are speaking; auto-follows the active speaker
Roger Clip-On Worn by your conversation partner for direct one-on-one voice transmission
TV Connector Streams TV audio directly to both hearing aids; room volume stays separate
PartnerMic Noisy restaurant or outdoor conversations with a companion
Phonak was founded in Zurich, Switzerland, and has chased the same thing ever since: better speech clarity, in harder rooms, with less effort from the person wearing the device. Every product milestone traces back to that.

Why Buy Phonak Hearing Aids Through Injoy

Phonak doesn't sell directly to consumers. Every purchase goes through a retailer or clinic. The question isn't whether you'll buy from someone. It's whether you're paying for a waiting room you don't need.

As an authorized Phonak retailer, we provide genuine devices, valid manufacturer warranties, and licensed hearing care providers who handle your fitting using the same software traditional clinics use. Your hearing aids are programmed to your audiogram before they ship. Adjustments happen on your schedule, from wherever you are.

Every Phonak purchase through Injoy includes authentic, brand-new devices from an authorized retailer, licensed hearing care provider fitting and remote programming, unlimited remote adjustments with no time limits and no session caps, a 60-day risk-free trial with a full refund if they are not right, a 4-year manufacturer warranty, 3-year loss and damage coverage, and phone support from people who know the whole catalog.

The hearing aids are identical to what any clinic sells. The professional care is identical. The price is not. That's the Injoy difference.
