ReSound Sensia Hearing Aids: What Actually Changed
TL;DR ReSound Sensia hearing aids run a new AI platform. It classifies your surroundings and cleans up speech automatically. Same shell and price as Vivia, six fewer battery hours. The headline feature, Intelligent All-Around, is Tech Level 9 microRIE only. Everything else spans the range.
Your hearing aids pick a voice in a noisy restaurant. Too often it is the loud one two tables over, not your daughter across from you. ReSound Sensia hearing aids target that exact failure, and the research behind it is public.

What ReSound Sensia Actually Is
Sensia is ReSound's newest prescription family, and we stock the full ReSound hearing aids range. It is a family, not a single device. Four technology levels, six styles, plus CROS and Bimodal versions.
Every model is prescription only. A licensed hearing care provider programs it to your hearing profile before it ships. Fitting happens by phone or video after it arrives.
-
Four tech levels: 9, 7, 5 and 4
-
Fitting range: sensorineural, conductive or mixed loss
-
Age: adults and children twelve and older
-
Receivers: LP, MP, MM, HP and UP
-
Maximum output: up to 129 dB SPL on the UP receiver
-
Tinnitus: a Tinnitus Sound Generator module is built in

The Sound That Bothers You Most Is Another Person
Researchers once had hearing aid wearers log every annoying sound for two weeks. Ninety-one percent found something. The most reported category was not traffic or machinery. It was other people talking.
That is not really a volume problem. It is two problems wearing the same coat.
-
Energetic masking. Two sounds overlap acoustically, so one buries the other. Steady noise does this.
-
Informational masking. You hear both voices perfectly well. Your brain cannot keep them apart.
Conventional noise reduction only fights the first one. It measures the background, assumes it holds reasonably steady, then subtracts. Speech never holds steady. That single assumption is why good hearing aids still lose in restaurants.
Curious about the newer approach in general? We break it down in our guide to deep neural networks in hearing aids.
A Trio That Works Without You Asking
ReSound frames Sensia as three moves. Senses your surroundings, focuses in, engages through the noise. Read that as classify, aim, clean.
The goal is a hearing experience that feels like second nature, minus the second-guessing.
Senses Your Surroundings
AcoustIQ monitors your sound environment and classifies it continuously. It switches features on at the moment they help, not when you remember to.
Laurel Christensen, ReSound's Chief Audiology Officer, puts the professional case plainly. Performance in hard rooms should not depend on a wearer changing programs.
Focuses In and Tunes Out the Rest
Four synchronized microphones form a forward-facing beam. Turn your head and the beam follows. Most premium devices use two microphones and a wider, blunter beam.
Here is why the difference is felt rather than measured. A system that chases the loudest talker ignores where you are looking. You look at your friend and hear the next table. Eyes on one person, ears on another. That mismatch is tiring over a whole evening.
Hoerzentrum Oldenburg is an independent German hearing research center. It recognized this approach for better audibility and less listening effort.
Engages Through the Noise
Only two commercial hearing aid platforms currently run DNN denoising at all. Both need a dedicated accelerator chip to do it. That is why the feature sits at the top of every range.
Sensia's version lifts speech forward and softens the rest on its own. Vivia can do something similar, but you have to ask for it in the app.
What the Research Actually Shows, and What It Does Not
GN tested its combined beamformer and denoiser against another premium brand with DNN denoising. Twenty-four experienced premium wearers, median age 75, single-blind crossover. Everyone sat in a 16-speaker array under cafeteria noise at 70 dBA. Three talkers spoke from the front, the side and behind. Each listener faced forward and named the most audible voice.

That bottom row is the finding. The person you were following drops in volume. Ninety-six percent of the time, the other device lands somewhere else. Sometimes on the talker behind you.
Now the honest limits, because they matter. Researchers set each brand's programs by hand rather than letting the automatics run. So this measures the processing, not the automation. The paper also covers the platform combination rather than naming Sensia. Read it as evidence for the approach, not as a Sensia bench test.

Sensia vs Vivia: Same Shell, Different Brain
This is the comparison most people actually want. Sensia does not change what sits in your ear. It changes what thinks inside it.

Color choices run wide on the RIE styles:
-
Sparkling Silver, Sand, Gold and Bronze
-
Warm Grey, Graphite and Espresso
-
Deep Black, Navy Blue and Red
Custom shells add Anthracite and five browns and beiges, plus blue, red and clear.
ReSound calls the microRIE the world's smallest AI hearing aid. That is the manufacturer's claim, footnoted to their own data. Treat it as marketing, not a measured fact.
Battery Life and Charging
Sources inside ReSound's own launch material disagree slightly here. So here is the careful version.
-
Typical use: up to 24 hours
-
Maximum: 30 hours
-
Streaming half the day: around 20 hours
-
Charging: inductive, no connectors to line up
Safe expectation is a full day of typical wear, less if you stream heavily. Anyone promising 24 hours including heavy streaming is reading the brochure, not the spec sheet.
Four chargers exist. Standard, Desktop and Premium serve the microRIE, plus a Custom charger for rechargeable ITC and ITE. Devices sleep in a powered charger and wake when you lift them out. Leaving them in overnight is fine.
Low battery is polite about it. Volume drops and a melody plays every fifteen minutes. Streaming quits before basic amplification does.
Auracast, Streaming and the App
Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast run on every style except the custom CIC. The Auracast Assistant lives in the ReSound Smart 3D app. Finding a broadcast at a theater or gate needs no manual.
-
Hands-free calling on iPhone 11 or later, and on compatible Android devices
-
TapControl on microRIE: double-tap your ear to answer
-
TV-Streamer+ and Multi-Mic+ reach roughly 82 feet
-
Five programs your provider can enable, including Hear in Noise and Music

Do You Actually Need Tech Level 9?
Fair question, and the answer is not automatically yes.
Intelligent All-Around is the umbrella name for all three layers. It runs on Tech Level 9 microRIE only. Levels 7, 5 and 4 sit on the Sensia platform without that specific stack.
-
Level 9: restaurants, meetings, travel, big family gatherings
-
Level 7: regular noise, but less of it
-
Level 5: quieter routines, one-on-one and small groups
-
Level 4: simple listening needs
ReSound has not yet published fine-tuning channel counts per level. We will not guess at them, and neither should anyone else selling these. Call us and we will tell you what is confirmed.

Getting Fitted Without Setting Foot in a Clinic
Here is where we come in. We are an authorized ReSound retailer. The devices are genuine and the manufacturer warranty stays intact. Four years of warranty coverage, plus a 60-day money-back trial with no restocking fee.
The process runs backwards from what most people expect. Start with the free online hearing test, or upload your audiogram if you already have one. A licensed hearing care provider programs your devices to that profile before they ship. Fitting happens by phone or video once they arrive.
Adjustments never run out. Remote fine-tuning is unlimited for the life of the devices, with no session caps. Better hearing takes a few weeks of wearing and tuning. We stay with you through it.
Some people want hands-on care from a local clinic. That is the right call for them. For everyone else, the same devices and the same expert fitting arrive at home. Thousands less than traditional clinics. Talk to one of our hearing care experts. They will tell you straight whether Sensia is your device.
ReSound Sensia Hearing Aids: Your Questions Answered
How is Sensia different from ReSound Vivia?
Same shell, same receivers, same domes, same colors, same price tier. The difference is processing. Sensia adds the AcoustIQ classifier and engages denoising automatically. Vivia waits for you to boost it in the app. You trade roughly six hours of battery for that automation. Your existing Vivia receivers and domes still fit.
How long does the ReSound Sensia battery last?
Expect up to 24 hours of typical use on a charge, with a 30-hour maximum. Stream for about half the day and that drops to roughly 20 hours. Charging is inductive, with no connectors to line up. Leaving them in the charger overnight is safe. Battery status shows in the ReSound Smart 3D app.
Do ReSound Sensia hearing aids work with Auracast?
Yes, on every style except the custom CIC. Bluetooth LE Audio and Auracast are built in. The Auracast Assistant in the ReSound Smart 3D app finds public broadcasts for you. That covers theaters, airports, gyms and lecture halls with a transmitter installed. No technical setup is required on your end.
Can I wear them in the shower or the pool?
No. IP68 covers dust and water resistance for sweat and rain. ReSound's own user guide says do not swim, shower or use a sauna. Never immerse them in liquid. This trips up a lot of people, because IP68 sounds like it should mean waterproof. It does not mean waterproof here.
Which tech level should I choose?
Level 9 microRIE carries Intelligent All-Around, the full classifier and beamformer stack. It suits busy social lives. Levels 7 and 5 run the Sensia platform without that specific feature gate. ReSound has not published channel counts by level yet. Nobody can rank them on that number. Our team can help you figure out exactly what is right for you.
Do I need a hearing test before I order?
You need a current audiogram, yes. Take our free online hearing test. Or send an audiogram from any provider you have seen. We do not perform diagnostic evaluations ourselves. A licensed hearing care provider uses that audiogram to program your devices before they ship. Accuracy matters more than speed here.
Can Sensia work with a cochlear implant?
Yes. The Bimodal version pairs with Cochlear Nucleus sound processors through the Smart Hearing Alliance. It sits on the microRIE shell. ReSound launched a Bimodal version of the Enzo IA super-power line at the same time. Enzo IA covers severe to profound loss.
Is there a trial period?
Every order carries a 60-day money-back trial with no restocking fees. That applies to every brand we sell. Prescription devices also carry a four-year manufacturer warranty and three-year loss and damage coverage. Full terms sit on our risk-free trial page. Sixty days is enough time for your brain to adjust and for us to fine-tune.
